Melasma Treatment
This treatment is designed to target stubborn hyperpigmentation, melasma and uneven skin tones using a combination of exfoliating and skin-brightening agents.
We assess what’s actually driving your pigmentation, then build a plan around your skin type and triggers — because Melasma is managed rather than cured, and the approach matters more than any single treatment.
What is Melasma?
Melasma is a form of hyperpigmentation that appears as brown or grey-brown patches, usually across the cheeks, forehead, bridge of the nose and upper lip. It’s symmetrical, which is what distinguishes it from sun spots or post-inflammatory marks.
It’s far more common in women, and in people with medium to deeper skin tones. It’s harmless — but for most people it’s a persistent source of self-consciousness, and it responds poorly to guesswork.
What Causes Melasma?
Sun exposure — UV is the single biggest trigger, and why melasma worsens through summer
Hormones — pregnancy, the contraceptive pill and HRT are common triggers; the pregnancy association is why it’s sometimes called the “mask of pregnancy”
Heat — not just sunlight; hot environments and even hot showers can aggravate it
Genetics — it frequently runs in families
Skin type — Fitzpatrick types III–VI are considerably more prone to it
Skin irritation — harsh products or aggressive treatments can worsen pigmentation rather than clear it
How do we treat Melasma at elixSKIN Clinic?
There is no single treatment that clears melasma for everyone. What works depends on your skin type, how deep the pigment sits, and what’s triggering it — our treatments are an alternative to hydroquinone that has been clinically proven to be effective in reducing melasma and hyperpigmentation by addressing the root cause of melanin production.
