Allergic reactions
We use professional products, but irritation, sensitivity or allergic reaction is always possible, even to products you haven’t reacted to before. If a reaction happens during treatment, our protocol is to give antihistamines and, where needed, refer you to a medical professional.
Clients under 18
Advanced treatments, including microneedling, peels and injectables, are for clients aged 18 and over. Some facials, such as the Clear & Hydrate Facial for Men, are available to 15–17 year olds, who must be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout the appointment. The parent or guardian must complete the consultation form and give consent.
5. Preparing for your appointment
- Skin preparation: stop using all acids (AHA/BHA), retinol, vitamin C and other active products 5-7 days before your treatment, and don’t restart them until 7 days after.
- No make-up: please arrive without make-up. Time spent removing it comes out of your treatment time.
- Recommended product: for advanced treatments, we recommend buying Avène Cicalfate+ barrier repair cream beforehand to help your skin recover.
- Events and holidays: allow a full 7 days for your skin to settle after advanced treatments, and plan around any events. Don’t book an advanced treatment within 2 weeks of a holiday or other sun exposure.
6. Arriving at the clinic
- Finding us: use the full postcode, LE1 6TP.
- Please arrive on time, not early. We work with clients back to back and have no waiting area, so if you arrive early you’ll need to wait outside.
- Late arrival: if you’re more than 15 minutes late, we may shorten your treatment (the full price still applies) or cancel the appointment. If it’s cancelled, you’ll lose your deposit.
- Guests and children: for health and safety, and to keep the clinic relaxing for everyone, please don’t bring guests or children. The only exception is a parent or guardian accompanying a client aged 15–17.
- Parking: there’s one free signposted parking space on the drive, on a first-come basis. On-street parking costs around £2.
7. Rescheduling and cancellations
- Rescheduling: you can move your appointment free of charge if you tell us at least 48 hours before it. Your deposit moves to the new date.
- Less than 48 hours’ notice, cancellations and no-shows: you’ll lose your deposit.
- Your 14-day cancellation right: if you book online or by phone, you can normally cancel within 14 days of booking for a full refund. When you book an appointment within those 14 days, you ask us to provide the treatment during that period, and you agree that your deposit becomes non-refundable under these terms. Once a treatment has been carried out, you can’t cancel it.
If we need to cancel
We’re a small clinic, so occasionally we may need to cancel because of illness or an emergency. We’ll contact you as soon as we can and offer the next available appointment. If none of the new dates suit you, we’ll refund your deposit in full.
8. Results, risks and side effects
Aesthetic treatment is not an exact science. The aim is improvement, not perfection, and we can’t guarantee any particular result. Results vary from person to person and often need a course of sessions plus the right home care.
Every protocol is followed to carry out treatments safely, but all treatments carry some risk. Please allow a full 7 days for your skin to settle after advanced treatments, and plan around events.
Microneedling and polyneedling
Microneedling uses a dermapen to create tiny, controlled injuries in the skin that encourage new collagen.
- Common: redness for 24–48 hours, tightness, mild swelling, tiny pinpoint bleeding during treatment, light flaking after 2–3 days
- Rare: infection, cold sore flare-ups, temporary darkening or lightening of the skin, small marks from the needle pattern, scarring
Injectable treatments
This includes mesotherapy, skin boosters (such as Hyaron), polynucleotides (such as Vitaran), the Dark Circles treatment and the Specialist Acne Scar Treatment. Numbing cream is used for injectable treatments only.
- Common: bruising, tiny red needle marks, swelling, mild irritation, pain and discomfort, small bumps that settle within a few days
- Rare: permanent changes in skin pigmentation, permanent scarring, infection, allergic reaction or anaphylaxis
Chemical peels
This includes the Clarity Acne Peel, Bio Peel and BioRePeel.
- Common: stinging or tingling during treatment, redness, tightness, dryness, and flaking or peeling for several days. The Bio Peel causes full-face peeling for 7–10 days.
- Rare: blistering, temporary or permanent darkening or lightening of the skin, cold sore flare-ups, infection, scarring
- Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun after a peel. You must avoid sun exposure and use SPF daily as advised.
Cold plasma
- Expected: small scabs that heal over about 10 days. You can’t wash the treated area for 24 hours.
- Rare: temporary or permanent changes in skin pigmentation, infection, scarring
If you have any reaction that worries you after treatment, contact us straight away. For a severe reaction, such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or signs of infection, call 999 or go to A&E.
9. Aftercare
You’ll be given aftercare advice for your treatment. Following it is important for your results and to reduce the risk of side effects. Unless your practitioner tells you otherwise, after advanced treatments:
- don’t wear make-up for 3 days
- don’t use acids, retinol, vitamin C or other active products for 7 days
- avoid the sun for 2 weeks and use SPF daily
- avoid strenuous exercise and anything that makes you sweat for 48 hours
We can’t be responsible for reactions or poor results caused by not following aftercare advice.
10. Courses, packages and offers
- Course packages: sessions bought as a course (for example, 3 sessions) must be used within 4 months of purchase. Unused sessions after this expire and can’t be refunded or carried over.
- 3-Month Skin Treatment Programmes are booked as monthly sessions and must be completed within the programme period agreed at your consultation.
- Offers are only valid in the month advertised. They can’t be moved to another month, and full price applies after the offer ends.
- Courses, packages and gift vouchers are for the named client and can’t be transferred unless we agree.
11. Photographs
We take photos before, during and after treatment for your client record and to track your progress. These are kept private and confidential. Any photo you upload when booking is only used to assess your skin. We will only use photos in marketing, on our website or on social media with your separate written consent. See our Privacy Policy.
12. Complaints
If you’re unhappy with your treatment, please tell us as soon as possible, ideally within 7 days, by emailing info@elixskinclinic.co.uk with photos if relevant. We’ll acknowledge your complaint within 3 working days and aim to resolve it within 14 days. Where appropriate, we may offer a review appointment or corrective treatment.
13. Our liability
- We carry out every treatment with reasonable care and skill, following professional protocols, and we hold professional insurance.
- We’re not responsible for reactions or results caused by information you didn’t disclose or gave inaccurately, by not following preparation or aftercare advice, or by the known risks and side effects listed in section 8 that we’ve explained to you.
- Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can’t be limited or excluded under UK law. Your statutory rights are not affected.
14. Changes and law
We may update these terms from time to time. The version on our website when you book applies to your appointment. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
